FIFA recognized NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, has alleged that
self-imposed NFF President Chris Giwa's main aim is that Nigeria does
not qualify for the Russia 2018 World cup and that he and his supporters
will not stop until that aim is achieved.
The
FIFA World Cup qualifiers begin in October and will run till November
2017 while the draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Cairo, Egypt on
the 24th of June.
Giwa has since 2014 laid claim to the leadership of the NFF and on Friday forced his way into the office of the football federation, claiming he has a court order to take over the NFF.
Pinnick has now hit out at Giwa, saying he aims to sabotage Nigeria’s quest to qualify for a sixth World Cup.
“Giwa
is a major distraction and their main aim, from A to Z, is to ensure
Nigeria do not qualify for the next World Cup after we promised
Nigerians we will,” Pinnick said at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
“It’s a shame!”
“We
cannot afford any distractions, not from anywhere. We have an objective
of qualifying for Russia 2018 and that is not what we can negotiate.
That is one of the reasons I am in the office today.' He continued, in
quotes made available by theNFF.com.
“The Board has to look
at various areas of the preparation as we countenance the draw for the
group phase of the series that is coming up on 24th June.”
