Nigerians are reacting with saddened heart to the murder of
a woman trader in Kano, Bridget Agbahwe, who allegedly blasphemed against
Prophet Mohammed. The woman, who is said to be a Pastor’s wife engaged in an
argument with another woman over Prophet Mohammed and Jesus Christ, eventually,
she was attacked and killed by an angry mob.
Among notable Nigerians who are now seeking justice for the
former plastic seller include, Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Oby
Ezekwesili.
While commiserating with bereaved family, Atiku revealed
that such brutality is against the teachings of Islam and against Nigerian
laws. He demanded that Police should ensure justice is done.
"The murder in Kano is not acceptable in any human community.
It is against the teachings of Islam and it is against Nigerian laws. I deeply
commiserate with the bereaved family. The police should get to the root of this
issue and ensure justice is done", Atiku Abubakar stated.
Mrs Ezekwesili on her part disclosed that she has adopted
the hashtag, #JusticeForBridget and invite all Nigerians to join in demanding
for speedy justice for her.
I'm adopting #JusticeForBridget slogan that already exists.
I hope as many of you as possible will JOIN IN DEMANDING SPEEDY JUSTICE FOR
HER.
"Yesterday, I had contacted & DEMANDED from IG of @PoliceNG
SPEEDY INVESTIGATION & PROSECUTION of KILLERS OF BRIDGET. #JusticeForBridget.
WE shall give IG of @PoliceNG, the Kano State & Governor, FG & NASS a
FEW DAYS MORE to DEMONSTRATE URGENCY IN GIVING #JusticeForBridget.
"Just for a 2nd imagine how Kano would rank in the #GlobalRanking
of Cities as DESTINATIONS for INVESTMENT if #JusticeForBridget is NOT DONE. No
STATE CAN AFFORD to be PERCEIVED as practicing #StateSponsoredTerrorism. Kano
State MUST BE AT THE FOREFRONT of #JusticeForBridgetNOW!
"I contacted Emir of Kano to ASK for his VOICE on #JusticeForBridget.
He said he spoke yesterday & now waiting for @PoliceNG INVESTIGATION.
"Extrajudicial murder of Briget Agbaheme in Kano for
"blasphemy" MUST MARK A TURNING POINT. I SHALL STAY ON HER MATTER
UNTIL JUSTICE IS DONE," she said.
