I am Chilaka Stanley Chima and currently the IT manager of Pennisula Hotels, Lekki Peninsula. I want to share my story of how Information technology (IT) has made me to where I am today. In Life, they say some are born lucky while some find their own luck – I’m of the latter having found my by making deliberate decisions that has paved the way and path for the career I now enjoy in IT.
My
journey into the world of IT started about 10 years ago. Back then, I looked at
the world around me and everybody was talking about IT, companies where
deploying IT solutions everywhere and at that moment I saw an opportunity! That
was what got me interested. I started out with basic computer training which
got me jobs in some small scale firms doing repairs and software installations.
But
I wanted more and opted for career in networking as it offered more opportunities,
but I nursed a fear of putting my money where I won’t get value for it. So I
dillydallied until I heard of Deft-Rains Solutions, and wow, what a choice
I made! Deft-Rains shaped and pruned me into a solid networking engineer. I
grew from someone who knew only about basic networking of just two computers to
one that can now handle a larger network as I now do where I work as the IT
manager.
